Web & Social Media

Social Media is the quickest way for a journalist to connect with their audience immediately after an event or to interact more intimately with their school community. Over my three years on The Chronicle, I have mostly used Instagram to connect with our audience, posting both my photography and small captions promptly after an event, as well as posting Instagram stories to increase traffic whenever we post a new story on our website. I have also utilized Twitter and our website polls to increase audience interaction.

Instagram

Instagram is The Chronicle's most followed social media platform, and I was able to utilize the platform to report on a variety of events this school year including our musical Curtains, our boys' basketball and football seasons, and Homecoming Week events such as our senior boys' talent show Mr. Grandview. To do this, I posted both engaging photos but also included detailed captions which gave insight into the event.

I also shouted out every new story posted on our Instagram stories. These were always formatted the same, with the story linked for easy access.

Twitter

Twitter also comes in as a second close to our most used social media platform for The Chronicle. While we mostly repost club flyers and announcements here, we also utilize the platform to announce certain stories and do live score updates at games. I wrote this specific post in January after the passing of one of our English teachers, Ms. Richards.

Website Polls

Another way I interacted with the school's opinions was by updating our website poll throughout the school year with different questions which often centered around current topics, events, or holidays.
